About This Program

Please note that this program often takes between one to two years to complete depending on course offerings. Students may be required to complete some programs directly with the University of Saskatchewan Saskatoon campus. It is recommended to combine this certificate with a bachelor degree, which programs like psychology, sociology, and pre-social work pairing well with the CCAP program.

This certificate is intended to offer students a program option in criminology and addictions that will allow them to explore greater opportunities in corrections, public safety, policing, court services, advocacy, addictions services and other areas in the criminal or social justice system as well as a foundation for further academic study or research. The program culminates in a six-week practicum in a social support, legal support, or education and advocacy agency. You may earn the certificate on its own, concurrently with a degree, or after aving already received a degree from the University of Saskatchewan or another institution. It is recommend to pair this program with a degree.

What you will Learn

You will study crime and criminological theories, and will be introduced to core sociological concepts. You will learn about addictions, with a specific focus on problematic alcohol and illicit drug use and basic concepts and debates concerning causes, consequences and interventions. You will study the correctional system and examine key positions and principles involved in custody, punishment and rehabilitation.

Program Extensions

The CCAP program serves as a foundation for further academic study or research. Graduates may use this program as a step towards an undergraduate degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Native Studies, ABJAC (Aboriginal Justice & Criminology) or a related discipline.

All of the courses may also be used to meet the requirements towards a 3-year B.A. degree, 4-year B.A. degree, or B.A. Honours degree.

Admission Requirements and Deadlines

Deadlines

St. Peter’s College Deadline:

Students already accepted into their program at the University of Saskatchewan may begin classes at St. Peter’s College anytime before the deadline for registration changes (mid-September and mid-January)

Admission Requirements

You must be admitted into the U of S College of Arts & Science and be in at least the second year of your studies and/or have equivalent life or employment experience before you can be considered for the CCAP.

 

English Proficiency

If your first language in not English, you may have to prove proficiency in English before admission. It is expected that applicants interested in this program are fluent in English.

Students must apply and be accepted to the University of Saskatchewan and St. Peter's College. The University of Saskatchewan requires a non-refundable application fee of $90 CDN before your application will be processed. St. Peter's College will process your application at no charge.
