All undergraduate students admitted to the College of Engineering are required to complete a common first-year of undeclared studies (known as the first-year common core).

The first year curriculum features a modular structure, with well-integrated content across courses to reinforce program learning objectives and develop the skills and attitudes that will promote student success. A competency-based assessment approach, supported by daily help sessions, provides students with multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery of fundamental concepts. Near the end of the Winter Term in first year, students will select a major and will be placed in the appropriate bridging courses to facilitate their transition into the upper year programs.

Prospective students who begin their studies in a college other than the College of Engineering are encouraged to consult an Academic Advisor within the Engineering Student Centre on a regular basis to plan their program of study, choose courses (including electives), and monitor their academic progress. 

What you will Learn

USask has redesigned the first-year engineering to help you succeed and make engineering more fun. We call the new first year RE-ENGINEERED. It’s the only program of its kind in Canada. It will get you excited and inspired about engineering.

In RE-ENGINEERED, instead of high-stakes exams, you will do more assignments and quizzes so you can improve your mark if you stumble early. Daily tutorials are part of the schedule so you can get help when you need it. And instead of final exams, you will explore the different branches of engineering in hands-on courses.

You will choose your engineering specialty – known as your major, or discipline – at the end of your first year. This is the area you will study in-depth in your upper-years classes.

Deadlines

St. Peter's College Deadline:

Students already accepted into their program at the University of Saskatchewan may begin classes at St. Peter’s College anytime before the deadline for registration changes (mid-September and mid-January)

University of Saskatchewan Deadline:

Required High School Classes

• Chemistry 30
• Physics 30
• Pre-Calculus 30

Note: a minimum grade of 70% is required in each of these courses.

Required Grade Average

Applications are considered up until the deadline. Admission is offered on an ongoing basis until all seats are filled. Applicants who do not meet the admission average but otherwise qualify for admission may be placed on a waitlist.

At the discretion of the college, applicants who had been placed on a waitlist may be offered admission based on their place in the waitlist (determined by admission average).

Minimum admission average: 70% at SPC campus
