Amin Babaeighazvini

Dr. Amin Babaeighazvini is an accomplished researcher and educator, currently a faculty member at St. Peter’s College, where he teaches courses including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Chemistry for Engineers. He also serves as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Saskatchewan in the Department of Chemical Engineering, focusing on the application of hybrid cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) in polymeric nanocomposites. His interdisciplinary background includes agricultural and food chemistry engineering.

Amin completed his Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan. His doctoral work investigated hybrid cellulose nanocrystals in polymeric nanocomposites, exploring their potential applications in sustainable and biodegradable materials. Prior to that, he earned an M.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering, with a thesis on UV-protective nanocomposites, and a B.Sc. in Food Engineering from the University of Tehran.

Recognized for his academic excellence, Amin has received numerous awards, including the prestigious 2023 Madan and Suman Gupta PhD Award in Engineering and a SIGMA entrepreneurship program prize. He is also the recipient of several Mitacs-funded fellowships, which supported his postdoctoral work in collaboration with Tunistrong Technology Inc.

His research interests span a variety of fields, including the use of nanocellulose in targeted drug delivery, the development of biodegradable food packaging, and the creation of humidity-responsive photonic films. He has published extensively in high-impact journals, with over 985 citations, an h-index of 16, and i10-index of 18. His work has appeared in journals such as International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Chemical Engineering Journal, Carbohydrate Polymers, and Polymers. He is also a guest editor for Gels, Polymers and Applied Sciences journals and serves on the editorial board of Advanced Energy Conversion Materials.

Amin is active in leadership and professional service roles. He has served as the President of the Engineering Graduate Community Council at the University of Saskatchewan and as a representative for the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. His dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment is reflected in his teaching philosophy, which emphasizes student-centered learning, active engagement, and real-world relevance.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Amin has gained significant industry experience, particularly in food production and packaging, and is a registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGS. He continues to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research on sustainable materials, bioplastics, and nanotechnology.
