St. Peter’s College has long been known for its gymnasium and natural ice rink it houses in the SportsPlex. Community members from Muenster and the surrounding area have often shared fond memories of hockey, soccer, volleyball, or track and field on campus. In light of COVID-19, the sports complex was empty during the summer, leaving an ideal opportunity to complete emergent renovations safely.
Constructions crews from Miners Construction were hard at work during the summer to give the flat portions of the SportsPlex roof a new pitched roof and proper replacement & resurfacing. Some modest Spring water damage within the fitness center and foyer area also required attention.
College President, Rob Harasymchuk notes that the investment is significant, but necessary, saying “…though it’s not that visible or obvious to a passerby, the new roofing was important to complete to ensure the facilities remain useful and accessible. The new roofing system is expected to extend the life of the building by 30+ years while also increasing the safety, building efficiency and comfort of the SportsPlex for all our users.”
Work began on the renovations in late June and concluded in August. The construction crew were housed at St. Peter’s Abbey during the project as they worked around the clock and followed COVID-19 guidelines to complete renovations before students resumed their studies in September.
