St. Peter’s College Hosts HealthLink to Guide Students Toward Health Care Careers

HealthLink, an initiative dedicated to connecting rural youth with career opportunities in Saskatchewan’s health care sector, brought together students, educators, and health professionals at St. Peter’s College in Muenster on October 22. The event welcomed more than 80 high school students from across the Horizon School Division, offering them an inspiring opportunity to learn about pathways into the province’s growing health care field.

This special event, one of only two HealthLink events in the province, brings together students, educators, and health professionals to inspire the next generation of caregivers and practitioners. While one event takes place in Saskatoon, the Muenster edition proudly serves rural Saskatchewan communities.

Collaboration for Rural Health Futures

HealthLink is a joint effort between the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), Horizon School Division, and St. Peter’s College, with additional participation from Carlton Trail College. Together, these partners created a dynamic day of learning that combined presentations, interactive discussions, and real-world advice from practicing health care professionals representing a variety of disciplines.

Students had the chance to hear firsthand about the rewards and challenges of working in health care, particularly in rural areas where the need for skilled workers continues to grow. They learned not only about traditional roles such as doctors and nurses but also about the many other vital professions that make up the health system including therapy, laboratory work, imaging, and mental health services.

Inspiring Pathways for Students

Beyond sparking interest in different careers, HealthLink helped students understand what classes to take, which colleges to attend, and how to apply for health-related programs. The event’s approachable format encouraged curiosity and showed students that a fulfilling health care career can begin right in their own community.

A Campus That Welcomes Exploration

St. Peter’s College was delighted to host the HealthLink event, welcoming students from across the region to explore its campus and programs. The day provided an excellent opportunity to highlight the college’s academic offerings, including its four-year nursing program, and to demonstrate that students can pursue high-quality post-secondary education right here in rural Saskatchewan.
